Malaysian official arrives to mentor full membership of IPEA

An official of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) arrived here on Friday on a three-day visit for mentoring full membership of International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA).

Dato Ir. Dr. Gue See Sew, was welcomed by Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Jawed Salim Qureshi, on his arrival.

Pakistan, represented by PEC, is a provisional member of the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA) of International Engineering Alliance (IEA), said a news release.

During this visit Dr Gue will observe the registration of engineers and their continuing professional development (CPD) system of PEC.

He will also give presentation on international best practices in registration in-line with IPEA guidelines. Dr Gue will help PEC to identify the gaps if any for preparedness towards final Review by IPEA expected later this year.

It is pertinent to mention that PEC has attained the full signatory status of Washington Accord (WA) of IEA for Pakistan through which our engineering qualifications are recognized as substantially equivalent to other WA signatory countries.

Furthermore, achieving full membership of IPEA will enable Pakistani engineers to qualify for the title of International Professional Engineer (Intl. PEng) adopting a rigorous process of assessment in line with IPEA guideline. This will open new avenues of opportunities and cross border mobility for Pakistani engineers.

On first day of the visit, Dr. Gue met with Engr. Jawed Salim Qureshi, Chairman PEC, Engr. Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Vice Chairman PEC (Punjab) and members of the governing body. Engr. Khadim Hussain Bhatti, Registrar PEC briefed the delegate about major functions and governance of PEC.

Dr. Gue also visited the engineer’s registration and CPD departments at PEC Headquarter.

The Pakistan Engineering Council is a regulatory statutory body enacted by the Parliament to regulate the engineering profession in Pakistan. The Council sets, maintains and upholds realistic and internationally-relevant standards of professional competence and ethics for engineers, license engineers and engineering institutions.
