LSM Index up 5.89 percent for July – March, 2018

According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, “the over-all output of Large Scale Manufacturing Index (LSMI) increased by 5.89% for July – March, 2017 – 18 compared to July – March, 2016-17.”

Major contribution to the overall LSMI growth came from the phenomenal growth of 12.31 percent in the Oil Companies Advisory Committee followed by the 7.21 percent growth in Provincial BOS. However, the major impact on the LSMI Index came from the 4.85 percent growth in the Ministry of Production.

Amongst the items under OCAC, Petroleum Products production grew by a whopping 45.33 percent during the cumulative period, followed by the 44.93 percent growth in LPG Production.

Furthermore, in the Ministry of Industries list of items, Cigarette Production spiked by more than 84.90 percent, with total output from sacking growing by more than 51 percent during the outgoing nine months.

Furthermore, under the indices of March, 2018 the LSMI increased by 2.81 percent in March, 2018 compared to March, 2017 and increased by 5.88 percent when compared against February, 2018.

In a month on month comparison, OCAC reported an 8.46 percent increase with a growth impact on the LSMI Index at 1.31 percent coupled with a 8.23 growth impact of -1.62 percent on the index. However, the index also got a decent lift up from the month on month change of -1.17 percent resulting in a 9.76 growth impact.

Eleven of the major sectors of economy were up during the cumulative period of July – March, whereas four sectors were down during the cumulative period under review.
