LNG Imports during the month of May, 2018 up by 81.97 percent

According to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), total petroleum imports during the month of May clocked in at $1.487 billion; posting a growth of 22.34 percent from April’s imports of $1.216 billion with LPG posting an increase of 55.43 percent in imports during the period.

Compared to that, year on year growth in the petroleum imports also went up by more than 31 percent during the month of May. The total imports during the month of May 2018 against May 2017 grew by $352.751 million.

Petroleum products imported to Pakistan mainly include Crude, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), petroleum products and other products.

The major chunk of imports under the Petroleum category was mainly in the Petroleum Products which contributed a total of 53.77 percent of the entire imports. Total Petroleum Products imported during the month of May, 2018 clocked in by $799.952 million grew from $719.807 million same month last year.

SBP data reveals the second major chunk of imports under the Petroleum Products was mainly in the Petroleum Crude category which contributed a total of 27.33 percent of the entire imports. Petroleum crude imported during the month of May, 2018 clocked in at $405.069 million surging from $254.264 million same month last year.

Furthermore, month on month imports in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) went up by 55.43 and 2.80 percent respectively during May, 2018 with a year on year increase in LPG by 26.24 percent coupled with a year on year massive increase in LNG of 81.97 percent.

Total LPG and LNG imports clocked in at $23.041 million and $259.721 million during the month of May 2018.
