August 22, 2024 (MLN): K-Electric informed yesterday that the Fuel Charge Adjustments (FCA) approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for May and June 2024 will be spread over two months.

The FCA for May, approved at Rs2.59 per kWh, will be reflected in the October 2024 bill. The FCA for June, set at Rs3.168 per kWh, will be charged in the November 2024 bill.

Consequently, the net increase in customer bills due to FCA in October will be Rs 1.59 per unit, while the increase in November will be Rs 0.58 per unit.

Fuel charge adjustments are incurred by utilities due to global variations in fuel prices, which are used to generate electricity and changes in the generation mix.

These costs are reflected in customer bills following NEPRA’s scrutiny and approval.

“Customers also receive a benefit in their bills when global fuel prices decrease,” KEL added.
