IT minister advocates for broadband fiber incentives to drive GDP growth

November 15, 2023 (MLN): There is an immediate need to incentivize broadband fiber connectivity in the country as for every 10% increase in mobile broadband adoption results in a 0.5 - 0.8% increase in GDP, Caretaker Federal Minister for IT, Dr. Umar Saif said during a meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting delved into comprehensive discussions regarding fiberization and the right-of-way policy.
Senior officers of MoITT and representatives of telecom companies attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Umar Saif said that the provision of quality telecom services to the masses is topmost priority.
In the past few weeks, we have standardized right-of-way policies for laying of fiber for ISPs and telecom players, he maintained.
He asked the IT industry to set its target for fiberization in the country and affirmed that the ministry of IT & Telecom will fully cooperate with the telecom industry.
