Imports into Pakistan increase by around 17% MoM in December

January 15, 2021 (MLN): Imports into Pakistan during the month of December 2020 amounted to Rs. 801,162 million, showing an increase of 17.24% as against Rs. 683,354 million in November 2020 and 28.66% as compared to Rs. 622,709 million during December 2019.

According to the provisional figures compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, in terms of US dollars the imports in December 2020 were $5,005 million, showing an increase of 16.61% as compared to $4,292 million in November 2020, and 24.50% as compared to $4,020 million in December 2019.

Imports during July – December 2020 totaled Rs. 3,999,061 million as against Rs. 3,630,229 million during the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 10.16%.

In terms of US dollars, the imports during July – December 2020 totaled $24,473 million as against $23,195 million during the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 5.51%.

Main commodities of imports during December 2020 were Petroleum products (Rs. 56,500 million), Wheat unmillied (Rs.40,598 million), Petroleum crude (Rs.38,052 million), Palm Oil (Rs. 37,754 million), Plastic Materials (Rs. 35,421 million), Mobile phone (Rs.34,378 million), Natural gas, liquefied (Rs. 29,019 million), Iron and Steel scrap (Rs. 26,812 million), Raw cotton (Rs.24,831 million) and Power generating machinery (Rs.24,427 million).
