October 17, 2018 (MLN): The imports of the Agriculture and other chemical products during the month of Sept 2018 have reduced by 16.48% as compared to previous month, as it declined from $859.7 million to $718.1 million, divulged recent statistics released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Conversely, it has increased by 5.45% as compared to the same month of previous year when it was recorded at $680,980 million. This was mainly due to the increase in imports of fertilizers, medicinal products and other items.
On month-on-month basis, among different items in the group, fertilizer has witnessed the largest decline of 39.34% in imports, while insecticides took the second place in the list, recording a decline of 18.4% in imports.
With respect to the quantity imported, fertilizers and plastic materials have been observed as the most heavily imported items in the group.
As per data, during the month of September 2018, imports of insecticides and plastic materials has shrunk by 43.07% and 9.95% over the year respectively, whereas imports of fertilizers, medicinal products and other items have increased by 33.34%, 16.76% and 7.88% respectively.
