IMF reacts on the criticism received by Budget 2020

June 14, 2019 (MLN): Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Gerry Rice recently expressed his view on the backlash received by Pakistan’s Federal Budget FY19-20, wherein Pakistani citizens condemned IMF for purely concentrating on increasing taxes and prices and not caring much about reducing the problems of the common man.
Gerry Rice said that he didn’t really have a specific comment on the budget, but believed that IMF was focusing on how to restore stronger, more balanced growth by reducing domestic and external imbalances, improving the business environment, strengthening institutions, increasing transparency and protecting social spending.
“Social spending and protecting social spending is in fact an important part of the discussion that we are having on a program with Pakistan” he said.
