IMF delegation to visit Pakistan on February 24

February 20, 2025 (MLN): An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation is set to arrive in Pakistan on February 24, with discussions centered on the Climate Fund, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed while speaking to Journalists today. 

Pakistan is expecting to secure $1 to $1.5 billion under this initiative as part of broader economic support measures.

According to the minister, initial talks will center on structural reforms, while the IMF loan program's biannual review mission is scheduled for March.

Aurangzeb reassured that all matters related to the IMF program are on track.

On the economic front, he highlighted a positive shift in the current account balance, noting that Pakistan recorded a surplus over the past seven months, while the most recent monthly current account turned negative.

Aurangzeb emphasized the need for cautious economic growth to ensure stability and avoid falling back into the boom-and-bust cycle.

He reiterated that structural reforms are crucial to reshaping the economy's foundation and achieving sustainable progress.
