January 21, 2025 (MLN): The Gwadar International Airport is poised to significantly enhance the economy of Balochistan and the entire country, as highlighted by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

Presiding over the Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad, he said that the Gwadar International Airport, built with a $230 million grant from China, is a valuable gift to Pakistan.

He emphasized the importance of honoring this contribution and welcomed the commencement of flight operations at the new airport, according to the press release issued today.

The Prime Minister stated that those responsible for the killings in Balochistan are not only enemies of the region but are also enemies of Pakistan as a whole.

Shehbaz Sharif said creating hurdles in completion of Gwadar Port is also animosity with Pakistan.

He emphasized that the nation's adversaries seek to prevent the port's full operationalization.

On a positive note, the Prime Minister highlighted the record surge in IT exports, which reached $346mn in December last year, calling it a promising achievement.

He urged the need to further accelerate efforts to boost IT exports.

He said the government is also focusing on promotion of electric vehicles in the country and taking several steps in this connection.

Shehbaz Sharif said the World Bank's pledge of providing twenty million dollars under the Country Partnership Framework for the next ten years to support inclusive and sustainable development is also a welcoming step.

He said under this Country Partnership Framework, investment will be made in different social sectors of the country.

The Prime Minister said all economic indicators are showing a positive trajectory which is a testament to the government’s efforts to stabilize the economy.

He said the government is also making hectic efforts to provide the best facilities to Pakistani pilgrims during Hajj this year.

He also praised the armed forces and the people of Pakistan for their unparalleled sacrifices in eradicating Fitna-al-Khwarij from the country.
