Govt to support freelancers with interest-free loans, e-working centers

September 21, 2023 (MLN): The government will provide Interest-free loans and facilities to freelancers for setting up centers and will establish 5,000 joint e-working centers, IT and Communication Minister Dr. Umar Saif stated in a meeting held with Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar.

As per a press release issued by the Ministry of IT & Telecom, Dr. Umar expressed optimism about the discussion with the finance minister on the establishment of a joint fund with government support.

Steps are being taken to involve global investors in the proposed fund for start-ups, he stated.

Freelancers will get a place equipped with facilities, and millions of employment opportunities will be created.

There has been progress on the issue of allowing the free use of IT industry codes.

Accounts established in foreign countries will be transferred to Pakistan and investors' confidence will be restored.

With this initiative, the flow of dollars in the country will be faster and the volume of IT exports will increase immediately. The first attempt is to promote local and foreign investment in the country.

Dr. Umar also stated that he will visit Saudi Arabia soon to invest in the IT sector.
