September 01, 2024 (MLN): In response to Dr Kaiser Bengali's observations on the Rightsizing Committee’s recommendations, while submitting his resignation, the Ministry of Finance issued a detailed rejoinder emphasizing that his concerns stem from a possible misunderstanding or lack of communication.
Dr. Bengali, a respected committee member, had previously shared his reservations regarding the recently approved recommendations.
In its response, the ministry clarified that the rightsizing exercise encompasses all government positions from BS-1 to BS-22, not just BS-1 to BS-16, as was previously suggested.
The estimated 60,000 positions that could be declared surplus also include higher-grade positions, ranging from BS-17 to BS-22.
The estimated 60,000 positions that may be rendered surplus as a result of the exercise also include positions in BS-17 to BS-22.
The Rightsizing Committee has so far examined six Ministries in the first phase.
One of these Ministries has been approved to be abolished, while two others are being merged, which means that at least two BS-22 and several positions in BS-17 to 21 will be abolished, rendering surplus an equivalent number of officers in the same grades, the rejoinder further noted.
The government is working on an obligatory severance package in conjunction with requisite amendments in the Civil Servants, 1973, to make the package applicable to civil servants without any favour or preference, it added.
"The Rightsizing Committing is reviewing Ministries, Attached Departments, Autonomous Bodies and State-Owned Enterprises against the clear criteria assigned to it, objectively and across the board," the rejoinder further reads.
