Government plans to expand number of higher educational institutions

The government plans to expand the number of higher educational institutions in the country under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Vision 2025.

According to official sources, a sum of Rs 35.7 billion has been allocated for this purpose in the next fiscal year.

The HEC Vision 2025 aims to produce a skilled human resource catering the demands of time. Under the plan, 150 affiliated community colleges will be established across the country to produce skilled human resource.

Fifteen new research universities will be established offering innovative programmes of international standard in Technologies, medicine, agriculture, communication and allied health professions.

The plan envisages setting up more than hundred smart campuses of different public sector universities in underdeveloped areas.

Sub campuses of Virtual University and Allama Iqbal Open University will also be increased to offer technology delivered mass open education
