Filing tax returns to reduce electricity bills: Saleem Mandviwala

November 23, 2022 (MLN): Former finance Minister of Senate Committee Saleem Mandviwala chaired a meeting in which he said to reduce electricity bills consumers must file tax returns.

At present, the government has charged five different types of taxes on electricity bills, and a 40% to 58% tax portion is charged on electricity bills, he said.

Furthermore, a 17% tax was imposed on residential and other consumers, and an advance tax of 12% is charged on electricity bills.

Meanwhile, if the taxpayer is not on the Active Tax-Payer List (ATPL) then the tax will be doubled.

In addition, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has made it mandatory to transfer payments through bank accounts to purchase dollars.

Moreover, for foreign travel and purchasing a $2000 bank account is mandatory and the condition to buy a dollar has been clipped to 5000 dollars from 10,000 dollars.
