Final Push to wrap up 9th review: PM Shehbaz meets Kristalina Georgieva

June 22, 2023 (MLN): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is currently in a meeting with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the official Twitter handle of Pakistan's government informed today.

While the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, the revival of the loan tranche remains the only pending topic of discussion between Pakistan and the IMF, which has been stalled for a significant duration.

Earlier, the Pakistan side asked the fund to arrange a meeting of Shehbaz Sharif with the IMF Managing Director on the sidelines of the upcoming New Global Financing Pact Summit being held in Paris from June 22-23.

Despite several efforts from Pakistan, hopes are fading for the revival of the much-needed program, which too will expire on June 30.

Market participants have their fingers crossed as they eagerly await the outcome of this highly crucial meeting. Let's see what results this meeting will bring.
