Fertilizer offtake declines by 5.2% during Kharif 2021

October 26, 2021 (MLN): Total nutrient offtake during Kharif 2021 (April -September) was 2422 thousand tonnes which showed a decrease of 5.2 percent over Kharif 2020.

Among the nutrients, nitrogen offtake decreased slightly by 0.05 percent while phosphate offtake decreased by 21.0 percent. Potash offtake increased by 13.3 percent over Kharif 2020.

According to the latest report by National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC), the total nutrient offtake during September 2021 was about 419 thousand tonnes, which recorded an increase of 9.8 per cent over September 2020. Of this, nitrogen offtake increased by 17.6 percent whereas phosphate offtake decreased by 0.5 percent. Potash offtake also decreased by 41.2 percent.

Going by the report, total production of all products was about 652 thousand tonnes comprising 417 thousand tonnes of urea (63.9 percent of the total production), 72 thousand tonnes of DAP, 79 thousand tonnes of NP, 69 thousand tonnes of CAN, 7.6 and thousand tonnes of SSP, 0.9 thousand tonnes of SOP and 6 thousand tonnes of blends of various grades of NPKs. About 141 thousand tonnes of fertilizers were supplied in the market through imports including 123 thousand tonnes of DAP, 4.2 thousand tonnes of SOP, 6.9 thousand tonnes of MOP and 6.8 thousand tonnes of AS.
