Federal Govt authorizes sugar export of 1 MMT: ECC

October 2, 2018 (MLN): The federal government has authorized the export of one million metric tons of sugar during an Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting earlier today, notified Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry.

At the Committee meeting chaired by Finance Minister Asad Umar, the decision came about in order to make an allowance for a significant surplus stock of sugar.

The cabinet has further approved one month salary payments for the Pakistan Steel Mills’ employees, for August, 2018.

Accepting the proposal by Ministry of Commerce, the ECC has also granted permission to revise Cess rates of Tobacco.

In addition to this, Fawad Chaudhry informed that the committee has decided to set up a special committee comprising of members from Finance, Power Division, Auditor General of Pakistan, Ministry of Petroleum and FBR in order to address various issues of K-Electric.

In response to a question, Chaudhry apprised that there were no plans to increase electricity tarrifs.
