November 11, 2020: The cabinet has approved wheat support price at the rate of 1,650 rupees per 40 kilogrammes.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Syed Shibli Faraz, briefing media about decisions taken in the cabinet's today's meeting in Islamabad with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, said the support price will enable common people to buy flour at affordable rates as well as farmers to get best price of their crops.

The Minister said Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Finance has been tasked to evolve a comprehensive strategy to rationalize subsidies so that deserving families can get maximum benefit.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed to devise a mechanism for a targeted subsidy to especially benefit the destitute and backward areas as subsidy should only go to poor not rich.

Prime Minister instructed to present a comprehensive plan along with implementation timeframe, after detailed review, to provide subsidy to the poor and backwards area.

The Cabinet also approved granting status of a registrant body to Trade Development Authority of Pakistan under Geographical Indications Act 2020 to enable it to register country's products as Pakistani brands at the international level.

The cabinet, on the request of the Saudi Government, gave approval for the establishment of Digital Cooperation Organization, which will help promote mutual cooperation among the regional countries in the field of information technology.

Federal Minister Asad Umar apprised the cabinet about latest situation regarding COVID-19 pandemic in the country, expressing concern over the surge in coronavirus cases.

On this, Prime Minister Imran Khan appealed the nation to strictly observe precautionary measures to prevent spread of the contagion.

He directed the National Command and Operation Center to formulate a strategy to combat the evolving situation without adversely impacting employment in the country.

The cabinet also decided, in principle, that the government will not organize any public gathering during this phase.
