FBR extends tax return deadline to Oct 14 after initial denial

October 01, 2024 (MLN): After denying media reports about an extension for filing tax returns for 2024, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has finally extended the deadline from September 30 to October 14, 2024, according to an official notice. 

A few hours earlier, the revenue board refuted all media claims regarding an extension through its social media handle on X (formerly known as Twitter).

"FBR refutes the news being circulated in media about extension in the last day of filing income tax returns. It is hereby clarified that no such extension is being granted," it said.

FBR further advised all taxpayers to file their income tax returns before deadline to avoid punitive action.

The FBR has now officially issued a circular stating that it has extended the deadline in response to requests from various trade bodies, tax bar associations, and the general public.

"FBR is pleased to communicate that the date of filing of Income Tax retum for the Tax Year (TY) 2024, for the persons who are required to file their retums by September 30, 2024 is hereby extended upto October 14, 2024," the notice reads.
