February 20, 2025 (MLN): The development of industry, agriculture, and IT, along with job creation and export growth, remains a top priority for the government, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated while chairing a meeting of the Economic Advisory Council in Islamabad.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working tirelessly for sustainable economic progress and ensuring the full utilization of existing trade capacity to boost regional commerce.
The Prime Minister emphasized that local industries will be strengthened to enhance the country's export competitiveness in global markets.
He highlighted the government's efforts to establish Green Data Centers and improve telecommunication services, particularly in remote areas, to promote IT exports and support freelancers.
Additionally, discussions are underway to regulate digital currency to keep up with evolving financial trends, according to the press release.
Council members expressed strong confidence in the government's economic policies, acknowledging that Pakistan’s economy is stabilizing and moving towards growth.
They attributed increasing production levels to price stability and commended the government’s economic team for defying previous estimates and projections.
Participants noted that, for the first time, global economic institutions, the business community, and investors have unanimously recognized the government’s action plan.
They also appreciated the administration’s commitment to implementing institutional reforms, a milestone in the country's economic history.
The business community and stakeholders lauded the Prime Minister for maintaining open and consistent dialogue, which has led to tax system improvements, regulatory ease, and a business-friendly environment.
They further observed that the country’s industrial sector is gaining momentum, with a noticeable rise in exports within a month.
Anti-smuggling measures have also contributed to this positive trend.
In response, the Prime Minister thanked the Council members for their input and directed the relevant authorities to develop a comprehensive action plan based on the proposals discussed during the meeting.
Shehbaz Sharif concluded the session by reaffirming his government’s commitment to economic stability and growth.
