October 02, 2018 (MLN): CPI for the group of food and non-alcoholic beverage items have grown by 1.09% on year-on- year basis, as recorded by PBS in a recent official data released.
However, it dropped by 0.75% on month-on-month basis.
Out of 39 items, meat, spices, dry fruits, rice and tea have been the major contributors in raising the CPI for the collective food and non-alcoholic beverage group on year-on year basis.
Meanwhile, tomatoes, onion, fresh fruits and chicken have been the major contributors in weighing down the CPI for the group on month-on-month basis.
Among these items, CPI for meat and spices has been recorded to have a significant increase of 10.82% and 10.66% respectively on year-on-year basis. While CPI for tomatoes and onion has witnessed a considerable decline of 12.03% and 10.47% on moth-on-month basis respectively.
On the basis of weights assigned to the various food items in a group, CPI for Fresh Milk drove up by 0.04% on month-on-basis and 4.02% on year-on-year basis.
