Cotton production falls 48%

October 21, 2024 (MLN): Cotton arrivals in Pakistan fell 48% to 3.102 million bales as of October 15, 2024, as compared to 5.996m bales in the same period of last year, according to data compiled by brokerage house Arif Habib Limited (AHL).

According to the breakup of the data, cotton arrivals from Sindh province stood at 1.916m bales, down 45% on a year-over-year basis.

Meanwhile, cotton arrivals from Punjab province, another key cotton-producing region, decreased by 53% to 1.186m bales.

Pakistan is among the top ten cotton-producing countries in the world, and cotton and textile products are among the country’s major exports. However, output still stands below expectations.
