Cotton production falls 34%

November 18, 2024 (MLN): Cotton arrivals in Pakistan fell 33.6% to 4.894 million bales as of November 18, 2024, as compared to 7.37m bales in the same period of last year, as per the latest data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA).

“The decrease in cotton arrivals has been attributed to poor farmer economics and delayed planting of the cotton crop,” said Arif Habib Limited (AHL) in a note.

According to the breakup of the data, cotton arrivals from Sindh province stood at 2.65m bales, down 32.8% on a year-over-year basis.

Meanwhile, cotton arrivals from Punjab province, another key cotton-producing region, decreased by 34.5% to 2.24m bales.

Pakistan is among the top ten cotton-producing countries in the world, and cotton and textile products are among the country’s major exports. However, output still stands below expectations.
