May 08, 2024 (MLN): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has authorized an increase of Rs2.8372/kWh in the applicable tariff for ex-Wapda distribution companies (XWDISCOs), said a notification issued by Nepra today.

This increase comes on account of variations in the fuel charges for March 2024.

The adjustment will be shown separately in the consumers' bills on the basis of units billed to the consumers in March 2024.

Nepra said the adjustment will be applicable to all the consumer categories except Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) and lifeline consumers.

Last month, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), a subsidiary of the Power Division, had demanded Rs2.94 per unit additional fuel cost for March 2024 to be recovered from consumers.

CPPA-G said that the actual pool fuel cost for March 2024 was Rs9.3819/kWh, against the reference fuel cost component of Rs6.4417/kWh, Rs2.9402/kWh higher as compared to the reference fuel charges.

Accordingly, nepra "after incorporating the aforementioned adjustments, reviewed and assessed a National Average Uniform increase of Rs2.8372/kWh in the applicable tariff for XWDISCOs on account of variations in the fuel charges for the month of March 2024," reads the notification.
