Commerce Minister announces arrival of vital urea shipment for Rabi season

December 21, 2023 (MLN): To ensure uninterrupted availability of Urea during the critical Rabi sowing season (Oct-Mar), the first Urea shipment arrived at Karachi Port yesterday, the Commerce Minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz, revealed this through his latest social media post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

This shipment would ensure that the farmers have all the essential tools they need to cultivate bountiful harvests.

“Food security is very important and this underscores the government’s commitment to the sustainable growth of Pakistan's agricultural sector,” the minister further added.

It is important to mention that as a consequence of these governmental efforts to boost the agriculture sector, the country’s overall nutrient offtake surged by 12.4% YoY to 543,000 tons during November 2023 as compared to an offtake of 483,000 tons in the same month last year.

Product-wise, Urea's offtake during November 2023 was 611,000 tons, which increased by 4.8% over November 2022.

Whereas, DAP offtake was 278,000 tons, 17.7% higher than in November last year.
