Closing Bell - Index Gains 399 Points

The market's behavior in the last few weeks can be best defined as whimsical. After dropping by 3.75% cumulatively yesterday, the market was up to 48513.23 during the first half of the trading session. But the highs were short lived as the market was well below the yesterday's tally for the most part of the day. The index recovered slightly towards the end of the session and closed at 48,071 Points.

The bulls came in early morning to take advantage of yesterday's decline in the market but were met with yet another uncertain day as the market dived during the latter half of the day.

Relatively, the market fared better than yesterday's performance.

The session witnessed a cumulative incline of 399.24 points or a 0.84%percent.

The index touched an intra-day high of 48513.23 and a low of 47,099.99 points, moving in a range of 1,413 points or 2.96% of yesterday's close.

The net gainers during today's session were; Sanofi-Aventis Pakistan Limited SAPL +5.00%, Hinopak Motors Limited HINO +3.70%, Wyeth Pakistan Limited WYETH +1.86%, Sapphire Fibres Limited SFL 3.48% and Lucky Cement Limited LUCK 4.32%.

The net decliners during the session were; Ghandhara Industries Limited GHNI -3.31%, Sitara Chemical Industries Limited SITC -5.00%, Exide Pakistan Limited EXIDE -2.14%, Al-Ghazi Tractors Limited AGTL -2.87% and The Thal Industries Corporation Limited TICL -3.89%.

All Share Volume increased by 97.81 Million to 317.18 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.42.04 Billion.

Total companies traded were 378 compared to 386 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 160 closed up, 202 closed down while 16 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 22,937 to 86,420.

Value Traded increased by 5.68 Billion to Rs.14.96 Billion
