Closing Bell: Another miserable day, as selling continues

Aug 29, 2019 (MNL): The domestic equity market on Thursday closed on a negative note after shedding 478 points or 1.56% decline from the previous day’s closing to arrive at 30,158 points level.

The market opened on a slight negative note today and kept fluctuating near the flat line till mid-day. The amendment in the GIDC Act, 2015 provided some relief but it was short- lived. At the end of trading, the benchmark KSE100 Index recorded a negative close mainly due to excess selling in Oil and Gas sector.

The Index traded in a range of 690.86 points or 2.25 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 30,801.35 and a low of 30,110.49.

Of the 88 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 13 closed up 72 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 87.46 million shares.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 156 points, Commercial Banks with 132 points, Cement with 59 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 41 points and Power Generation & Distribution with 38 points.

The most points taken off the index was by OGDC which stripped the index of 70 points followed by PPL with 65 points, HBL with 40 points, UBL with 27 points and LUCK with 26 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Fertilizer with 73 points and Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 6 points.

The most points added to the index was by FFC which contributed 67 points followed by EFERT with 13 points, DAWH with 12 points, FFBL with 6 points and FATIMA with 4 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 30.43 Million to 118.59 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.106.06 Billion.

Total companies traded were 338 compared to 340 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 74 closed up, 250 closed down while 14 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 9,762 to 46,750.

Value Traded decreased by 1.00 Billion to Rs.4.38 Billion
