Car sales have increased by 15.53% over the year in July, slightly larger than the growth witnessed in the number of cars produced in that time frame, according to data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturer’s Association (PAMA).

Compared to the 16,337 cars sold in June 2017, a total of 18,875 cars have been sold in July 2018.

The increase in car sales has therefore outpaced the growth in car production as a total of 21,377 cars have been produced in July, compared to the 18,681 cars produced in the corresponding month of the previous year. This represents an increase of about 14.43% in car production during July, slightly behind the growth witnessed in sales.

The highest growth in sales was observed in the ‘1300 CC & above’ category, which comprises Honda cars (Civic and City), Suzuki Swift and Toyota Corolla. A growth of 21% in this category surpasses the 15.74% growth in sales of 1000 CC cars, and is also way ahead of the 5.72% growth in car sales of cars that are 800 CC and below.

1000 CC cars include both Suzuki Cultus and Suzuki WagonR while 800 CC cars and below comprise Suzuki Mehran, and Suzuki Bolan.

Similarly, production growth of 16.71% of cars that are 1300 CC and above, is also more than the growth of 13.72% and 11.67% of cars that are 1000 CC and 800 CC and below cars respectively.
