Burshane LPG Ltd calls case compiled by the I&I wing of FBR totally fabricated, fictitious and baseless

September 30, 2020 (MLN): Burshane LPG (Pakistan) Limited issued a clarification regarding false impression created in a Program aired by the Media House on September 23, 2020 that the company was involved in misuse of funds.

In a Tv show, the host discussed matters pertaining to Burshane LPG (Pakistan) Limited ("Burshane") which is a public listed company, relating to a case which is pending adjudication before the Court of Special Judge Customs, Taxation and Anti-smuggling, Karachi.

Mr. Asem Iftikhar of Intelligence and Investigation wing of FBR also joined live in this program, who as per the company’s statement made false and frivolous allegations on Burshane and its management. He referred to a complaint filed by the l&I wing of FBR with the Court of Special Judge Customs, Taxation and Anti- smuggling, Karachi. The l&I Director provided a copy of the Complaint to this Media House which was also aired live.

The company in its statement said that the copy of this complaint was not even provided to Burshane and the allegations apart from being false, pertain to a period from 2014, and the I&I wing of FBR didn't even bother to ever give notice or call Burshane, its management or any of its director for any questions during the inquiry or investigation, but were keen to appear on TV and malign Burshane by giving one sided false details of the case.

Burshane confirms that the case compiled by the I&I wing of FBR is totally fabricated, fictitious and baseless and Burshane intends to take all appropriate legal and factual defenses to have this frivolous complaint dismissed, however, since the case is sub-judice, Burshane does not want to comment on the merits or de-merits of this case on this forum.

“It appears that Mr. Asem Iftikhar choose one of the news channel to publicize this false allegation to gain instant publicity and fame in the eyes of his superiors to malign Burshane and cause damage and loss to the reputation of stakeholders of Burshane at the behest of some individuals for which Burshane and its management reserve their right to take appropriate legal action against Mr. Asem Iftikhar”, the company stated in the elucidation issued.
