March 10, 2025 (MLN): The Islamabad district administration has intensified efforts to ensure the availability of essential food items at affordable prices during the holy month of Ramadan on the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
As part of a rigorous crackdown on profiteering, the administration has initiated daily operations, leading to the arrest of 117 individuals, including seven from Bari Imam Bazaar.
Additionally, fines totaling approximately Rs175,000 have been imposed for violations of official price regulations.
To further alleviate the financial burden on consumers, subsidized markets are under strict supervision, ensuring that essential commodities remain affordable.
Ghee is being sold at Rs30 to 40 less per kg, the price of chicken has decreased by Rs20 per kg, and eggs are available at Rs12 less per dozen at Ramadan stalls.
Pulses and gram flour are also being offered at reduced rates, according to the press release.
Recent data shows that vegetables such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, and eggplant are being sold at lower prices compared to Rawalpindi, Lahore, and other cities.
Similarly, the prices of fruits, including bananas, sweet lime, apples, oranges, and melons, are also relatively lower nationwide.
Assistant commissioners and price control magistrates are actively overseeing the supply and sale of essential commodities to ensure strict adherence to government-fixed rates.
Officials have been instructed to be present in subsidized and wholesale markets to promptly address consumer complaints.
To enhance public convenience, the administration has displayed helpline and WhatsApp numbers, reaffirming its commitment to protecting consumers from profiteering and substandard goods.
Officials have issued a stern warning that no leniency will be shown to those involved in illegal profiteering or the sale of low-quality food items.
