Asian Stocks open Lower amid tension between the US and Turkey

Tokyo stocks opened lower while Hong Kong stocks tumbled in the first few minutes of trade Monday as investors are spooked by a rout of the Turkish lira that has fuelled concerns about a global contagion.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index fell 0.83 percent or 185.56 points to 22,112.2 while the broader Topix index gave up 0.83 percent or 14.22 points to 1,705.94. The Hang Seng Index sank 1.83 percent, or 519.30 points, to 27,847.32.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.94 percent, or 26.29 points, to 2,769.02, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, dived 1.15 percent, or 17.39 points, to 1,498.57.
