Airlink partners with Digicom Trading for phone production and distribution

December 29, 2021 (MLN): Air Link Communication Limited is joining hands with Digicom Trading Private Limited for the production and distribution of mobile devices and their accessories in Pakistan under the brand names QMobile, Qsmart, MAXX, and QTab, company’s filing on Bourse showed today.

Recently, the company announced to enter into the distribution agreement of a full range of Realme mobile devices and accessories, IoT products, TVs in Pakistan with Exert Tech (Private Limited).

Last month, Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) issued a manufacturing license to Airlink’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Select Technologies Private Ltd (SELECT).  To note, SELECT is the manufacturing partner for Xiaomi while Airlink is one of the largest distributors of Xiaomi and other mobile phones in Pakistan.

The latest available data on PTA’s website suggests that the production of mobile phones by local manufacturing plants jumped more than twofold against the number of mobile phone imports in the country. During Jul-Nov 2021, the production of mobile phones by local manufacturing plants was 22.12 million compared to the imported mobile phones of 9.95 million.

However, despite the increase in local production, mobile imports during the first five months of the ongoing financial year (2021-22)  reached $857 million compared to $724mn in the same period last year, up by 18.3% YoY.
