Mobile phone imports surge by 41.6% MoM in November

December 20, 2021 (MLN): Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $212mn during November 2021, showing a growth of 28% YoY and 41.6% MoM, according to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

This has brought the cumulative mobile imports for the first five months of the ongoing financial year (2021-22) to $857 million compared to $724mn in the same period last year, up by 18.3%.

Meanwhile, the overall telecom imports into the country increased by 40% YoY and 37.5% MoM to $286.96mn during the said month.

The other types of machinery that contributed to escalating import bills during November 2021 in absolute terms were Electric Machinery & Apparatus and Power Generating Machineries as their imports stood at $187.25mn and $162.87mn respectively, the PBS reported.

Accordingly, the import bill of the machinery group surged by 47% YoY to $864mn during November 2021.
