January 08, 2025 (MLN): In a bid to enhance Pakistan's export performance, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has called for joint efforts to increase leather exports to $2 billion by 2029.

This target is set under the URAAN PAKISTAN program, as per the press release.

He made these remarks while meeting with key stakeholders of the leather industry during his visit to the Pakistan Tanners Association office in Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister described the leather industry as a cornerstone of the nation's economy.

He also outlined the government's plan to reduce barriers, simplify regulations, and implement exporter-friendly reforms to create a smoother business environment.

He expressed the government’s commitment to foster a favorable environment for exporters and enhancing the country's export capabilities.

Ahsan Iqbal stated that the government is focused on achieving a balance between industrial growth and environmental conservation to tackle the pollution control challenges in the leather industry.
