USA issues notification for 50% tariff on Indian goods

August 26, 2025 (MLN): The United States is set to sharply raise tariffs on imports from India, imposing an additional 25 percent duty that will bring the overall rate to 50 percent.

The action stems from Executive Order 14329 which directs federal agencies to respond to what Washington characterizes as threats tied to Russia.

In its draft notice, the Department of Homeland Security made clear that the increased duties specifically cover Indian products, aligning with the administration’s strategy of countering “threats to the United States by the government of the Russian Federation.”

“The duties described in the annex to this notice will apply to goods from India entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouses for consumption, on or after August 27, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EDT,” the notice stated.
