US firms eye Pakistan’s energy sector

August 20, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and the United States have agreed to expand their partnership in the energy sector by boosting cooperation and investment in oil, gas, and minerals, aimed at unlocking Pakistan’s vast untapped reserves and strengthen bilateral economic ties.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with US Charge d’Affaires to Pakistan, Ms. Natalie A. Baker, at the Ministry of Petroleum to discuss opportunities for collaboration.

Baker highlighted the growing interest of American companies in Pakistan’s energy landscape, assuring that the US Embassy would facilitate direct linkages between US firms and local counterparts in the Exploration & Production (E&P) sector.

Minister Malik welcomed this interest and pointed to upcoming bidding rounds for offshore and onshore exploration blocks, terming them a “tremendous opportunity” for international partners.

He emphasized Pakistan’s focus on developing its untapped shale oil and gas reserves.

Both sides acknowledged the success of the recent “Direct Line” webinar connecting US companies with Pakistan’s mineral sector and agreed to replicate the model for oil and gas.
