November 26, 2025 (MLN): US-based artificial intelligence music
platform Suno has entered into a partnership with Warner Music
Group, marking a major step forward in the rapidly expanding field of AI-driven
music creation.
The agreement concludes a civil lawsuit filed by Warner,
which alleged that Suno trained its generative AI models on copyrighted music
without authorization or compensation, APP reported.
The settlement also
aligns with a broader wave of legal actions brought by major music labels
against emerging AI platforms, including Udio, over similar copyright concerns.
Under the new partnership, Suno will debut updated AI models
in 2026. Access to audio downloads will require a paid subscription, and for
the first time recording artists will be able to opt in to allow their
names, likenesses, voices, and musical compositions to be used in the creation
of new AI-generated works.
“These will be entirely new creative experiences from
artists who choose to participate, opening fresh revenue streams and new ways
for fans to engage,” Suno explained in a message to users.
Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl hailed the deal as a
“landmark pact” that advances the interests of artists, fans, and innovators
alike.
“With Suno rapidly scaling in users and monetization, we saw
an opportunity to shape models that expand revenue and deliver next-generation
fan experiences,” Kyncl said. “AI becomes pro-artist when it follows core
principles: proper licensing, fair value for music, and an artist-controlled
opt-in.”
The agreement follows similar developments across the
industry, including a recent partnership between AI platform Udio and Universal
Music Group.
