November 06, 2025 (MLN): The government has informed that the nationwide sugar crushing season will officially commence from November 15, 2025, following detailed consultations among all stakeholders, including the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) and provincial authorities.

The decision was made during a crucial meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain.

The session was attended by Cane Commissioners from all provinces, representatives from the Ministry of Industries and Production, the Ministry of Commerce, and other concerned departments, along with a delegation of the PSMA led by Chaudhary Zaka Ashraf.

During the meeting, it was agreed that timely commencement of the crushing season is vital to protect the interests of sugarcane growers and to ensure stable sugar supply in the domestic market. The participants welcomed the government’s intervention and expressed full support for the coordinated approach.

The Federal Minister emphasized that strict action will be taken against any sugar mill that fails to start crushing operations on the prescribed date. He reaffirmed that all sugar mills are required to clear outstanding dues to farmers before the start of crushing, ensuring growers receive timely payments.

“The government is making all decisions in the best interest of farmers to prevent their exploitation,” the Minister stated, adding that the timely start of crushing will facilitate sugarcane growers and help maintain market stability.

He further directed provincial authorities to strictly monitor the performance of sugar mills, ensuring compliance with the approved schedule and protecting the rights of farmers.

The decision underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, promoting transparency in the sugar industry, and maintaining adequate sugar availability in the market ahead of the new season.
