SBP opts for further contraction, raises policy rates by 25 basis points

January 31, 2019 (MLN): The central bank has announced a hike of 25 basis points in key policy rate, bringing the interest rate for next two months to 10.25%.

A meeting of the monetary policy committee (MPC) took place in Islamabad today, whereby the committee took the aforesaid decision which was contrary to market expectation.

The announced policy rate will be applicable from February 1, 2019.
