November 21, 2025 (MLN): The Ministry of Commerce is working with the sports goods sector to enhance competitiveness and export potential through targeted skill development and quality certification programs.

A consultative session held on November 20, chaired by Prime Minister’s Commerce Coordinator Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan, reviewed key challenges facing manufacturers and exporters in the sector, said a press release issued yesterday.

Officials and industry representatives discussed initiatives including collaboration with universities, NAVTTC, and TEVTA to align technical training with modern industry requirements.

The meeting also emphasized introducing third-party product certification to meet international quality standards, a step aimed at boosting Pakistan’s credibility in global sports goods markets.

Industry stakeholders raised concerns over access to the Export Finance Scheme (EFS), streamlining the Drawback of Local Taxes and Levies (DLTL) process, and updating technical training curricula.

Participants agreed on institutionalizing regular monthly reviews to monitor progress and ensure ongoing coordination between government departments and the private sector.

The sports goods industry, which contributes significantly to Pakistan’s exports, has long faced challenges in quality compliance and workforce skills.

The proposed measures could enhance export readiness, improve global market access, and strengthen Pakistan’s position in key markets such as Europe, the United States, and the Middle East.
