Pakistan’s economic recovery gains momentum

August 24, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan's economic indicators are continuing to show a positive growth trajectory across various sectors, with the economy beginning to recover from the strain caused by the Gulf war, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said while presenting the Monthly Development Update in Islamabad.

The minister stated that the government had worked to keep supply chains operational during the challenging period while taking measures to curb hoarding and profiteering, according to Radio Pakistan.

Highlighting the latest economic indicators, he noted that inflation declined to 9.2% in July, compared with 11.7% in May.

Workers' remittances also maintained a positive momentum, reaching $3.6bn in July, up 13% YoY, showing continued confidence among overseas Pakistanis.

Meanwhile, industrial activity has also shown encouraging signs, with Large-Scale Manufacturing (LSM) recording 5% growth during the year.

Ahsan Iqbal said the improvement in industrial production would support the country's export growth and contribute to the broader economic recovery.
