March 30, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has stepped up diplomatic efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterating Islamabad’s readiness to help bring both sides to the negotiating table amid escalating Middle East hostilities.

The development came during a high-level meeting in Islamabad with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, where the worsening regional conflict and its broader economic and security implications were discussed, according to the press release.

PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the urgency of coordinated international efforts to halt the ongoing violence, noting that the conflict is inflicting significant losses on lives, infrastructure, and regional economies across multiple countries, including Iran.

He outlined Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution.

The visiting foreign ministers shared their respective governments’ assessments of the situation, showing growing concern among key regional players over the risk of a prolonged conflict.

Both sides acknowledged the potential spillover effects on global energy markets, trade routes, and financial stability factors already contributing to heightened volatility in international oil prices and investor sentiment across emerging markets.

Pakistan’s mediation push comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have entered a critical phase, with global markets closely monitoring developments due to their direct impact on crude oil supply, inflation trajectories, and external account pressures for energy-importing countries like Pakistan.

Senior Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. Asim Malik, also attended the meeting, showing the strategic importance Islamabad is placing on diplomatic engagement during the crisis.

The Turkish and Egyptian foreign ministers appreciated Pakistan’s engagement in peace efforts, while discussions also emphasized the need for sustained dialogue among regional and global stakeholders to prevent further escalation.
