Pakistan fan makers push green technology for global markets

April 6, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan’s electric fan industry is gearing up to scale production of energy-efficient DC fans, aiming to reduce electricity consumption domestically while expanding exports to the Middle East and Africa.
The sector, concentrated in Gujrat and Gujranwala with
around 300 manufacturers, provides approximately 40,000 direct and over 150,000
indirect jobs, contributing significantly to employment and the country’s
industrial value addition.
Industry representatives, including Mr. Nabeel Ahmed
Ilyas (Chairman PEFMA) and Mr. M. Azhar Aslam (Chairman Export Committee
PEFMA), highlighted the sector’s export potential, according to the press release.
Along with them, Mr. Yesir Ihsan (Director Pak Fans), Mr.
Imad Rafiq (Director Royal Fans), and Mr. M. Faisal Afzal (CEO Super Asia
Group) also emphasized the sector’s prospects.
They emphasized the need for increased access to
financing to expand production capacity and meet rising demand under energy
efficiency initiatives.
During a virtual discussion with Federal Minister for
Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Minister of State for
Finance Mr. Bilal Azhar Kayani, it was highlighted that while policy frameworks
supporting energy-efficient technologies are in place.
Wider adoption requires improved awareness and better
coordination with financial institutions.
The Finance Minister stressed that addressing
implementation gaps and facilitating investment in productive capacity are
critical for strengthening the sector.
The industry also flagged structural challenges affecting
competitiveness, particularly the availability and utilization of key raw
materials like copper and aluminum.
Rising exports of these materials in raw form have
limited domestic value-added manufacturing, prompting calls for a balanced
approach that encourages local production while supporting exports.
Other matters discussed included SME liquidity, tax
refunds, export facilitation mechanisms, and tariff structures on inputs.
Officials underscored that sustainable export growth
depends on competitiveness, scale, and policy consistency.
Taxation, market access, energy efficiency, and financing
were identified as critical factors for the electrical appliances sector’s
performance.
The Finance Minister encouraged ongoing dialogue between
industry stakeholders and government departments to develop practical,
forward-looking proposals.
The discussions also highlighted opportunities for
expanding market access and enhancing sector competitiveness through targeted
policy support and innovation.
Scaling up energy-efficient fan production could position
Pakistan as a key supplier of cost-effective, energy-saving appliances in
regional markets, while also reducing domestic electricity demand.
The meeting included senior officials from the Finance
Division, Federal Board of Revenue, and other relevant departments, reflecting
a coordinated government effort to support value-added manufacturing and
export-oriented sectors.
