October 01, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan possesses vast reserves of copper, gold,
and rare earth elements, opening new avenues for international cooperation in
the mining sector.
This was highlighted during
a meeting between Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and outgoing
Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins, said a press release issued
yesterday.
The two sides discussed
opportunities for collaboration in mineral exploration and development, with
the Minister stressing Pakistan’s potential to become a key player in the
global resource market.
The Australian envoy noted
that several Australian subcontractors are already engaged in Balochistan’s
mineral sector and reaffirmed his country’s keen interest in Pakistan’s natural
resources.
Acknowledging Hawkins’
contributions, Ali Pervaiz Malik praised him as a true friend of Pakistan who
played an important role in strengthening bilateral ties.
He also expressed hope that
the High Commissioner would return home with lasting and positive memories of
his time in Pakistan.
Lately, the Petroleum
Minister has also underlined that Pakistan is decisively moving away from
primitive mining practices toward modern, mechanized, and responsible methods.
In a recent meeting with a
Finnish delegation led by Ambassador Hannu Ripatti and Metso’s President of
Minerals Piia Karhu, he assured the government’s full commitment to providing a
stable and investor-friendly environment.
He emphasized that training
local talent would not only create prosperity within the country but also help
build a skilled workforce for global markets.
