January 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan reviewed its ongoing economic reforms and privatization initiatives with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) during the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos.
High-level discussions also explored investment
opportunities in the aviation sector with global firm Menzies Aviation, focused
on attracting investment and promoting private sector participation.
During a meeting with ADB President Masato Kanda, Pakistan’s
economic trajectory and ongoing reforms were assessed to strengthen cooperation
and support sustainable growth.
Discussions highlighted improvements in macroeconomic
stability, including easing inflation, declining policy rates, strengthening
foreign exchange reserves, and rising investor confidence, according to the press release.
The Finance Minister briefed the ADB leadership on
structural reforms, particularly privatization initiatives and enhanced private
sector participation across multiple sectors, noting that recent projects had
generated strong market interest and benchmarks for future investments.
The talks also addressed modernization of Pakistan’s energy
sector and sustainable energy solutions, with both sides agreeing to maintain
close coordination to identify practical measures that support inclusive and
durable growth.
ADB reaffirmed its commitment to Pakistan and emphasized the
importance of timely and effective delivery of development outcomes.
The Finance Minister also met with Hassan El Houry,
Chairperson of Menzies Aviation, to discuss opportunities in Pakistan’s
aviation sector.
Key areas of discussion included improving airport
operations and services in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, advancing
operational efficiency, and leveraging privatization plans for Pakistan
International Airlines.
Hassan El Houry highlighted Pakistan’s strategic potential,
particularly Sialkot, for aviation and logistics investments, and expressed
interest in expanding Menzies Aviation’s engagement in the country.
The meetings concluded with a mutual commitment to
strengthen cooperation, deepen partnerships, and advance investment-led growth.
These engagements are aligned with Pakistan’s broader reform
agenda, targeting macroeconomic stability, infrastructure development, private
sector participation, and long-term sustainable growth.
