April 12, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan successfully concluded high-level diplomatic engagements in Islamabad, as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the country’s role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, leading to a mutual understanding on an immediate ceasefire.

In his remarks at the conclusion of the Islamabad Talks, the finance minister expressed gratitude to both Iran and the United States for responding positively to Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He also appreciated their willingness to engage in constructive peace discussions hosted in Islamabad.

The talks brought together key delegations from both sides. The United States delegation was led by Special Presidential Envoy for Peace, Steve Witkoff, while Iran was represented by a senior parliamentary delegation headed by Dr. Bagher Ghalibaf.

Both delegations arrived in Pakistan to participate in what officials described as critical and timely negotiations.

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, played a central role in mediating the discussions.

He facilitated multiple rounds of intensive negotiations between the two sides over a 24-hour period, culminating in the ceasefire understanding reached earlier in the day.

The government of Pakistan reiterated its appreciation for the trust placed by both nations in Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts.

Emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace, stability, and constructive engagement in the region.

The statement stressed the importance of maintaining the current momentum, urging both parties to continue dialogue with a positive spirit aimed at achieving long-term peace and regional prosperity.

It also stressed the need for all sides to uphold the ceasefire commitment moving forward.

Pakistan reaffirmed its intention to continue playing a proactive role in facilitating engagement between Iran and the United States in the coming days, showing its broader ambition to act as a bridge for conflict resolution in the region.
