October 23, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and the United Nations have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting road safety and sustainable mobility.

This was decided during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety Mr. Jean Todt, said a press release issued today.

Mr. Todt, who is visiting Pakistan to attend the Regional Transport Ministers’ Conference, briefed the finance minister on the global and regional dimensions of road safety, highlighting the grave human and economic toll of road accidents, which claim over a million lives each year worldwide.

He emphasized that investing in safer roads, vehicles, and mobility systems is not only a health and safety necessity but also an economically and environmentally sound strategy.

Senator Aurangzeb appreciated Mr. Todt’s leadership in advancing the global road safety agenda and noted that Pakistan views road safety and climate resilience as interconnected pillars of its sustainable development strategy.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving transport safety standards, strengthening institutional coordination, and reducing the social and fiscal costs of road accidents.

Both sides agreed to maintain close collaboration to promote safe, sustainable, and inclusive mobility across Pakistan and the wider region.
