Pakistan, UK vow to deepen bilateral cooperation

August 20, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and the United Kingdom discussed strengthening democratic institutions supporting overseas Pakistanis and expanding bilateral cooperation during a meeting between Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry and British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott.

Chaudhry emphasized that constructive dialogue and robust institutions were central to sustaining democracy, stressing the government’s commitment to domestic reforms including empowered local governments to improve service delivery and development.

The talks also addressed issues faced by Pakistani-origin citizens in the UK, such as taxation and general facilitation.

Marriott welcomed Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to support overseas communities and expressed interest in further collaboration to enhance services for the diaspora.

Chaudhry highlighted government initiatives to counter misinformation and strengthen Pakistan’s international narrative.

He also invited Marriott to observe education reforms in his constituency, where he had focused on building international-standard institutions and increasing enrollment in public schools.

Both sides discussed strategies to alleviate poverty and improve living standards for low-income populations.

Chaudhry reaffirmed his commitment to advancing communication strategies, supporting overseas Pakistanis, and placing citizens at the center of policymaking.
