October 01, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to strengthening its historic and brotherly ties with Syria, rooted in shared faith, history, and mutual respect.
The assurance came during a meeting between Acting
President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab
Republic, Dr. Ramez Alraee, at Aiwan-e-Sadr. Both sides reaffirmed their
resolve to deepen bilateral cooperation and work together for regional peace,
stability, and prosperity.
The Acting President highlighted that Pakistan and Syria
have always stood shoulder to shoulder in testing times.
He recalled that Pakistan continued its diplomatic
mission in Damascus even during years of conflict, showing Islamabad’s
principled and steadfast friendship with Syria.
Drawing attention to the civilizational connection
between Damascus and Multan, he said both cities represent resilience and
cultural depth. He also emphasized Pakistan’s consistent support for Syria at
international platforms, including efforts to restore Syria’s membership in the
Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Mr. Gilani emphasized that Pakistan’s skilled
professionals can play a vital role in Syria’s rebuilding process, particularly
in medicine, education, information technology and banking.
He further extended training and capacity-building
programmes for Syrian diplomats, educators, and medical professionals.
On the occasion, the Acting President also handed over an
invitation for the Speaker of the Syrian Parliament to participate in the
upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference scheduled for next month.
Ambassador Dr. Ramez Alraee expressed gratitude for
Pakistan’s unwavering support and reaffirmed Syria’s desire to enhance
cooperation in defence, railways, economy, and education.
He also stressed the need to promote people-to-people
contacts to further strengthen bilateral relations.
