Pakistan, Saudi Arabia move to deepen parliamentary, strategic partnership

October 6, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are poised to strengthen their parliamentary and strategic ties as a high-level delegation from the Kingdom visits Islamabad to explore new avenues of collaboration across multiple sectors, including trade, defense and regional stability.
The visit aims to enhance coordination between the Saudi
Shura Council, Pakistan’s National Assembly and the Senate, fostering deeper
institutional linkages and parliamentary diplomacy between the two nations.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), both countries
continue to enjoy a longstanding and brotherly relationship rooted in shared
faith, mutual respect and common strategic goals.
The delegation’s engagements in Islamabad are expected to
focus on advancing bilateral cooperation and identifying new opportunities for
joint initiatives.
The visit follows an invitation extended by Speaker of
the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, during the signing of a mutual defense
agreement in September, in which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to
collective security pledging that any act of aggression against one would be
considered an attack on both.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Farooq,
described the delegation’s arrival as a “natural continuation of the enduring
friendship” between the two nations, highlighting their shared vision for regional
peace, stability, and economic progress.
The delegation, led by Speaker of the Saudi Shura Council
Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, includes senior officials
such as Engineer Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Burik, Dr. Ibtisam bint Abdullah
Al-Jubeir, and Ahmed bin Abdulrahman Al-Wardi.
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan share historic ties dating back
to 1947, when the Kingdom was among the first nations to recognize Pakistan’s
independence.
Their partnership was formalized through the Treaty of
Friendship in 1951, which continues to underpin a robust alliance built on
mutual trust, religious affinity, and shared strategic interests.
The visit marks another step toward expanding
parliamentary engagement, strengthening defense cooperation, and reinforcing
both countries’ roles as key partners in promoting regional development and
stability.
